The Director of Strategy & Operations is a crucial position within the Canadian Audit & Assurance practice. This role involves supporting the Canadian Managing Partner and leading strategic initiatives within the National Audit & Assurance Leadership Team. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership and direction to various functional support resources, including Finance, Marketing, Communications, HR, Learning, Knowledge Management, and ITS. Responsibilities include communicating functional priorities, ensuring alignment, and providing oversight and input on key deliverables within the National Audit & Assurance practice.

This position will require regular in-person attendance in our Toronto office.

What you will do
  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Audit & Assurance, Canadian Managing Partner (CMP), advising on complex issues and leading business planning efforts.
  • Responsible for maintaining effective operation of the Audit & Assurance function by assisting in the organization, oversight, program management, business planning and execution of strategic priorities that are critical in meeting the function's goals
  • Develop, lead and manage strategic initiatives that will position KPMG as a market leader, help drive innovation, and improve our people's experience while driving Audit Quality
  • Work closely with Audit & Assurance Business Unit Leaders and National Strategy Leaders to ensure alignment across the country and provide connectivity across geographies
  • Manage relationships with external partners and stakeholders, leveraging strategic relationships.
  • Actively participate in meetings and discussions to operationalize the Audit & Assurance strategy and move decision-making forward
  • Oversee the preparation and facilitation of Leadership Team meetings, ensuring effective communication and follow- up on action items.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, briefings, meeting agendas, and presentations for the CMP and their leadership team.
  • Manage large scale strategic initiatives: identifying key stakeholders, managing risks and providing direction on the execution and implementation of these projects.
  • Provide input to shape national strategy and priorities, proactively identifying issues that could impact execution.
  • Act as the CMP Advisor, proactively identifying issues or barriers to progress and making strategic recommendations
  • Oversight of the National Audit & Assurance support team
What you bring to the role
  • University education, preferably with a postgraduate degree and/or a professional designation in accounting or finance
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in matrixed organizational environment, preferably within professional services/ OR a thorough understanding of KPMG
  • Deep understanding of audit & assurance strategy and the ability to influence and collaborate with senior leaders across various functions
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to assess business health and apply critical thinking
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, people management and project management skills
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and balance multiple priorities and business demands
  • Exceptional change management skills to engage diverse stakeholders across the Firm
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills that can be applied across levels
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills and ability to structure an agenda to optimize people's time, achieve desired outcomes and drive decision-making Demonstrated judgment and diplomacy in working with diverse groups to address complex issues.
  • Strong ability to build strategic proposals and partnerships
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • The role is primarily office-based, requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities and engage with various stakeholders effectively
