The Opportunity:

The Project Accountant provides support to project managers and is responsible for maintaining a portfolio of projects throughout the project lifecycle. Reporting to the Market Segment Controller, the Project Accountant has a good understanding of the contracts awarded in order to provide accurate, timely and complete information on all project accounting activities, from project opening, to imputed transactions, revenue recognition, cost and revenue forecasts to project close-out. Also, the Project Accountant ensures that projects are configured in accordance with the terms of the contract, including margins sold. They participate in month end analyses, coordinates revenue adjustments if required and provides variance analysis to project managers and controllers.

What you can expect to do here:

Provide support and maintenance of a portfolio of projects under multiple project managers in the Property & Buildings market segment;

Assist project managers through the financial lifecycle of a project (ie. Project opening, monitoring, updating and closing);

Ensure that projects are created properly and that the update accurately reflects the value of the mandate, costs and expected margin of the contract and that addenda/change orders and purchase orders support the value of the mandate in the accounting system;

Validate that the financial status of the project is correct by ensuring that all costs and revenues are recorded in a timely manner;

Work with the delivery team to ensure regular reviews of the project, with respect to planned costs and total costs at completion;

Ensure that all financial issues related to revenues, budgets and profitability are adequately addressed;

Collaborate with project managers in the use of project analysis tools, dashboards, Oracle, etc.;

Understand the commercial clauses and the terms of invoicing and payment of projects and interact with the invoicing and collections teams on payment/collection issues related to projects;

Assist the controller with projects that require provisions (invoice adjustments, accounts receivable, work in progress, etc.);

Support the controller for the month's accounting close;

Prepare financial reports for the controller, project managers and managers.

What you'll bring to WSP:

Bachelor's or Technical in Administration or Accounting;

Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar position in financial and operational management;

Knowledge of the professional services industry, accounting/project management and ERP-type systems;

Ability to work under pressure and ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines;

Professional Judgment and Interpersonal skills;

Excellent command of Microsoft Windows suite tools;

Knowledge of Oracle system would be an asset;
