WSP is currently seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to join our Land Development and Municipal Engineering Team, located at our Ottawa office. Reporting to a Team Lead - Senior Civil Engineer, this position will be responsible for the execution of a variety of Roadway Engineering, Municipal Engineering and Land Development tasks, such as site servicing and feasibility studies, stormwater management and grading design, technical design production, reporting, site investigation and project management for municipal engineering and land development projects. What you can expect to do here:
An Engineering Intern begins their week with a team huddle, discussing the week's objectives alongside Engineers and Project Managers. You will play a key role in preparing detailed design reports, reviewing design drawings and creating technical specifications for various municipal and land development projects. Collaboration is at the forefront as you coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure all aspects of the project align. A critical step in project execution that you may assist with is calculating costs and quantities. To provide you with an overall understanding of design, field inspection offers hands-on experience to ensure the project design intent is met. Throughout the day, you will support project managers with tasks to assist them in ensuring quality objectives are met. These may include scope review, budget projections, schedule conformance, and problem-solving.
As an Engineering Graduate with WSP, you can expect to obtain the necessary competency-based experience identified by Professional Engineers Ontario as you work towards obtaining a licence as a Professional Engineer. Each task is a step towards building a robust foundation in the engineering field.

What you'll bring to WSP:
- Completed 3rd year of a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or an equivalent program;
- Enrolled and looking for a 16mo Internship Position
- 0 to 2 years of engineering experience in civil engineering;
- General design knowledge of roads and highways, site servicing including storm, sanitary and water, grading and drainage, and stormwater management;
- Interested and willing to obtain a sound knowledge of engineering standards, principals, practices and techniques including reference guidelines and design manuals used in land development and municipal engineering projects;
- Willingness to work in and learn AutoCAD Civil 3D and a general understanding of the software design capabilities;
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and technical specifications;
- Interested and willing to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD);
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal, including teamwork and interpersonal abilities;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Comfortable working independently in both an office and field environment; and a
- Valid Ontario driver's license.
