The Employee Relations Services team is a Center of Excellence within the National Human Resources team. The team's mandate is to provide subject matter expertise to the business to ensure a fair and consistent approach to employment legislation requirements, KPMG's policies and procedures whilst managing risks to the Firm. This mandate is met by:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Employee Relations Services, the Senior Employee Relations Advisor (M-2/Manager level) acts as trusted advisor to people managers and HR Consultants / HR Business Partners by recommending business options based on comprehensive risk assessments of relevant background information and providing pragmatic solutions to complex sensitive employee matters.

The team is known for its agility to respond to a rapidly changing talent environment and business pressures that requires us to take on new work / services.

The successful incumbent can be affiliated with any of the following offices: Vancouver, Calgary, Vaughan or Montreal.

What you will do
  • Act as trusted advisor to Leaders, People Managers and HR Consultants / HR Business Partners in consultation with other subject matter experts across the Firm
  • Leveraging advanced ER technical expertise and strong business acumen to provide pragmatic solutions to a variety of complex sensitive employee matterschallenges throughout the employment lifecycle such as performance management, discipline, absence management (disability), accommodation and departure
  • Manage complex, high risk and sensitive workplace issues and conflicts, including, but not limited to behavior that is contrary to KPMG's Canadian Code of Conduct, Respect at Work Policy, / or provincial legislation with respect to workplace violence, harassment and discrimination.
  • Partner with KPMG's Office of General Counsel and external counsel to respond to pre-litigation files to maximize opportunity for effective and timely resolution and risk mitigation
  • Monitor legislative changes and trends in employment practices and advise on appropriate proactive actions
  • Perform other duties, as required
As a National HR team, ERS provides support across Canada and therefore, operates between 8:00 am - 6:00 pm EST daily. The successful incumbent will work rotational shifts between 8:00 am - 6:00 pm EST to cover national time zones and is also expected to provide on-call support between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm EST up to 5 times a month.

What you bring to the role
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or a related field with a post-graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management
  • HRPA member in good standing
  • CHRL designation is an asset
  • 10 years of experience in Human Resources, with 3 years in employee relations or as an HR generalist with strong working knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Case management experience - executing on a file from start to finish
  • Experience in a non-unionized environment an asset
  • Effective interpersonal skills with an ability to develop rapport on a virtual basis
  • Demonstrated ability to probe and identify issues through effective questioning and active listening
  • Excellent analytical skills required to conduct risk assessments and to provide recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Committed to service excellence


This position requires written and oral fluency in English. The successful candidate will be required to support HR operations nationally and will work be required to communicate with English-speaking colleagues. This individual will be required to communicate processes to employees in English-speaking provinces .

KPMG BC Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $90,500 to $135,000 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant's base salary within this range is based on the individual's location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program
