The Opportunity:

WSP has a new opportunity for a Materials Testing Technician in Ottawa, Ontario. This opportunity will allow you to develop your technical skills in the field with like-minded professionals in a leading global professional consulting firm.

You will be responsible for providing technical services in both field and office settings. Your tasks will include assisting with materials-related projects, conducting field and lab tests on construction materials, performing site inspections, and overseeing subsurface investigations.

A day in the life:
  • You will provide technical services in both field and office environments.
  • You will offer technical assistance in materials-related projects and tasks, including carrying out field and laboratory testing of various materials on construction sites, in-situ density testing, and testing of concrete and asphalt materials.
  • You will perform construction site reconnaissance, inspections, and observations.
  • You will carry out fieldwork, direct fieldwork operations for subsurface investigations, including layout, supervising drill rigs and/or excavators, logging boreholes and test pits, site surveying to determine elevations at specific locations, sampling soil and groundwater, and preparing detailed site sketches.
  • You will use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports, and/or technical drawings.
  • You will summarize and analyze findings from investigations and lab testing for report writing.
  • You will work with and provide support to other members of the group in assisting with other field and office activities as required.

We'd love to hear from you if you have ...
  • College Diploma in a Civil Engineering Technician / Technology or Construction Engineering Technician / Technology diploma program, preferably with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering;
  • Previous experience working as a geotechnical or materials technician is an asset;
  • Bilingualism in French & English is an asset;
  • CCIL or ACI certification is an asset;
  • A vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage and hold a valid driver's license;
  • Knowledge of drilling procedures;
  • An ownership attitude, initiative, enthusiasm, a desire to continually learn and grow, a detail and quality focus, good judgement, a good work ethic, adaptability and good communication skills; and
  • MUST be eligibile for PSPC Reliability Secret Status ( individual must have 5 full years of current verifiable history in Canada, USA, UK, New Zealand and/or Australia to be eligible ).
