The Opportunity:
We are seeking a field technician to join our instrumentation and monitoring team based in the Markham office on a full-time basis.

- You will be providing technical services in a field and office environment;
- You will be installing various types of monitoring instruments, e.g., building monitoring points, utility monitoring points, settlement monitoring points, rail monitoring points, inclinometers, shape accelerometer arrays, monitoring wells, vibrating wire piezometers, strain gauges, electrolevel beams, tiltmeters, crack gauges, etc.;
- You will be collecting monitoring data using a total station unit and other instrument read out units, as applicable;
- You will be providing instrumentation technical issue troubleshooting, coordinate with supplier or engineer, and provide prompt response on site;
- You will be coordinating site activities in regard to instrumentation and monitoring with general contractor, sub-contractors and suppliers;
- You will be supervising the general site works including installation and decommissioning activities;
- You will be conducting or coordinating maintenance of the monitoring equipment, as required;
- You may be working with and providing support to the geotechnical and construction services groups and assisting them with other field and office activities as required; and,
- It is expected that you can carry up to 50 pounds during the field activities.
We'd love to hear from you if you have...
- A college diploma as a civil engineering technician / construction engineering technician, preferably with a focus on geotechnical engineering;
- Fundamental knowledge of instrumentation and monitoring activities;
- Solid experience with installation of monitoring instruments, data collection, and trouble shooting;
- Experience with usage of total station surveying units and various monitoring read out units (i.e., inclinometer, strain gauges, ...);
- Experience with working at construction sites;
- Experience with conducting pre- and post-construction condition visual survey and report preparation;
- Excellent organization and communication skills;
- A vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage and hold a G driver's license;
- Ability to lift heavy equipment or instruments (up to 50 pounds) and work near railway tacks;
- Be available for local business travel and extended working hours when required (night shifts and weekends);
- Experience with installation and configuration of automated instruments is an asset; and,
- Experience with geotechnical drilling procedures is an asset.
