WSP is seeking an Environmental Technician to add to our growing team in Port Hope, Ontario. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to and learn from our environmental programs, while also offering diverse experiences and the chance to grow professionally. This opportunity is to join the WSP team responsible for the execution and construction of the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI). The PHAI represents the federal government's response to the community-requested solution for the cleanup and local, long-term, safe management of historic low-level radioactive waste in the municipalities of Port Hope and Clarington.

Please note we will consider candidates based in various locations throughout Canada, but this opportunity is based on-site at the project site in Port Hope, Ontario.

What you can expect to do here:
  • You will assist with the implementation of various environmental field programs.
  • You will inspect, monitor, and conduct environmental field activities such as water management, erosion and sediment control, dust management, noise monitoring, etc.
  • You will collect environmental samples, including soil and water.
  • You will respond to environmental emergencies, such as spills.
  • You will write technical documents, including daily dust management plans, daily dust logs, daily environmental inspection logs, and spill reports.
  • You will maintain a key environmental issues tracking log.
  • You will record key environmental field data.
  • You will occasionally perform physical work, such as assisting with ESC installation, replacing dust station batteries, moving environmental monitoring equipment, and responding to spills.

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Bachelors degree in environmental science or related fields preferred.
  • College diploma/certificate in environmental science acceptable with the right skillset
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize evolving requirements for multiple ongoing projects
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated technical writing and critical thinking skills
  • Experience in the nuclear or construction/remediation-based sector considered an asset
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and all programs under MS Office
  • Familiar with ISO 9001
  • Valid G drivers license
  • Must be eligible for CNL Reliability Stauts security clearance ( individual must have 3 full years of concurrent verifiable history in Canada, USA, UK, New Zealand and/or Australia ).
