Job Description
PwC Canada is building the country's leading climate change team within our Sustainability and Climate Change practice. We focus on supporting our priority clients to address Canada's most significant climate change questions, challenges and opportunities. As a Senior Associate, you will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from Canadian leaders in the climate risk, transition and adaptation planning space. You will collaborate on challenging projects, supporting clients on a variety of topics, including: Climate risk and resilience: Support our clients mitigate climate and nature risk and build more resilient businesses. We help businesses grasp the specific climate risks they face, the regulatory and reporting requirements that govern them, their reliance on nature to drive business value, and the way their risk exposure presents opportunity. Climate adaptation planning: Support our clients with the development, implementation, and evaluation of climate adaptation strategies. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to conduct climate risk assessments, identify potential risks, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and design tailored adaptation plans.
Meaningful work you'll be part of
As a Climate Risk Senior Associate, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issue from strategy to execution. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Apply analytical skills and specialist knowledge of climate change to some of the most exciting and leading climate change projects in Canada
• Have an opportunity to support Canada's most complex and impactful climate change projects
• Gain experience across a range of sectors including financial services, telecommunications, energy, mining, industry, public sector, infrastructure, etc
• Contribute effectively to complex, multi-disciplinary projects - often supporting several projects at a time
• C ontinue to develop your technical understanding of climate change and how it applies to business, investment, and government decision making; and support internal and external thought leadership on specialist issues within climate change
• Support technical projects in areas such as climate scenario analysis, adaptation and transition plan ning
• Support clients and PwC colleagues to build their capacity in climate change
• Contribute to proposals and other business development activities
Experiences and skills you'll use to solve
We are looking for someone who is curious and showing a willingness to learn and take on responsibility .
Required
• Demonstrated knowledge and hands on experience in at least one of the following areas: climate scenario analysis, climate risk and opportunity assessments, financial impact quantification , adaptation planning, cost-benefit analysis
• An educational and/or applied background in one or more of climate science, engineering, financial analysis, or economics
• Understanding of qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods
• Understanding of factors which influence the resilience of physical infrastructure, organizations, and communities
• Demonstrated experience or familiarity with key climate-related reporting frameworks including CDP, CSRD, ISSB, and TCFD
• Computer programming skills (e.g., Python, R) and f amiliarity with GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) will be an added advantage
• Ability to work with large, multi-dimensional data (e.g., netCDF , Xarray , Dask , TIFF)
• Modelling experience with climate models (i.e., CMIP, GCMs, RCMs, etc.), ensemble analysis, uncertainty quantification, and climate model downscaling and f amiliarity with climate change adaptation concepts will be preferred
• Critical thinking, intellectual curiosity and problem solving abilities
• Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams
