We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in corporate law, with a passion for supporting organizations that make a difference in our communities. This role will involve assisting our team in providing comprehensive legal support to our clients, ensuring they remain compliant with relevant laws and regulations.

What you will do
- Maintain and expand key client relationships.
- Stay ahead of not for profile and charities legislative changes, as well as identifying emerging market trends in Ontario.
- Assisting organizations in the legal process of forming a corporation, including drafting and filing necessary documents.
- Providing guidance on the structure and processes for decision-making, accountability, and control within organizations.
- Helping organizations navigate the process of registering as a charity with the Canada Revenue Agency, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Assisting in the creation and legal structuring of non-profit entities to ensure they meet all legal and regulatory standards.
- Advising on the best ways to structure donations to maximize tax benefits for donors and recipients.
- Supporting the development and operation of businesses that aim to achieve social, cultural, or environmental goals alongside financial sustainability.
- Assisting organizations in developing and implementing strategies for political advocacy and policy influence.
- Providing legal support for organizations operating in international contexts, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.
- Offering guidance and support to charities in their interactions with the CRA, including compliance and reporting requirements.
- Representing charities in appeals against the revocation of their charitable status, including court proceedings if necessary.
- Creating and advising on tax-efficient structures for investment and business activities tailored to the needs of specific groups.
- Lead and mentor junior lawyers and support staff.
- 2 to 5 years of post-call related NPO and charities experience gained from a reputable law firm
- Broad not for profit and charities experience and proficiency
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and a practical and pragmatic style toward providing expert legal solutions
- The ability to balance the demands of an emerging practice
