A day in the life:
  • As the GTA Ontario Archaeology Lab Coordinator, you will be responsible for:
  • The development and management of integrated cultural resource management across WSP Ontario archaeology labs.
  • Development and management of artifact catalogue templates according to standardized processes.
  • Development and management of lab processes, such as washing, sorting, analysis and storage.
  • Management, organization, and proper safe storage of project materials, across WSP Ontario archaeology labs (with a main focus on our Mississauga and Burlington labs) in line with Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) expectations.
  • Directing employees in completing lab tasks and analysis.
  • Leading the transportation, organization, and storage of artifacts and data collected in the field.
  • Where applicable, aid in the analysis and documentation of artifacts per the MCM Standards and Guidelines and Parks Canada guidance.
  • Where applicable, aid in the analysis of artifact assemblages, including research on artifacts, manufacturing dates, and maker's mark.
  • Artifact analysis quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC).
  • Assisting with all aspects of archaeological assessment requirements aligned with the Ontario Heritage Act and MCM policies for archaeology on federal lands.
  • Researching, preparing, and submitting proposals and reports for a variety of archaeological projects, as applicable.
  • Performing project management tasks, which may include: overseeing project scope, budgets, schedules, and quality; leading client and stakeholder communications; and delegating to and mentoring support staff, as applicable.
  • Providing visible leadership by promoting health and safety in your projects and teams.
  • Work collaboratively with the team and Team Leads to arrange internal resources and logistics for the Ontario Labs.
  • Support business development activities.
  • Interact with clients, government personnel, and members of Indigenous Nations and communities.

What you'll bring to WSP E&I Canada Limited:
  • Experience following requirements and standards of various curation facilities.
  • Knowledge of Ontario historical period and/or Indigenous material culture.
  • 5+ years of experience in collection management.
  • Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Museum Studies or related field, with a focus on archaeology.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Ontario archaeology with an applied understanding of current Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists issued by the MCM and associated Technical Bulletins.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Ontario archaeology with an applied understanding of archaeological policies and protocols
  • Capable of delivering quality work in a deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.
  • Able to follow and implement both technical and safety training and instructions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain Provincial and Federal Security Clearance.
  • A valid Canadian driver's license with satisfactory driving record, per the WSP's driving policy
  • Expert knowledge of Ontario historical period material culture.
  • Knowledge of Ontario pre-contact period material culture.
  • Professional or Research License to conduct archaeological fieldwork in good standing from the MCM.
