What you can expect to do here:
- Engineer and design process Instrumentation & Control scope of,
- Mining infrastructure design - Includes dewatering, ore handling, paste back fill, tailings disposal, underground & surface communication network and automation
- Pumping systems for mining, landfills and contaminated soil sites
- Landfill gas extraction, flaring and generation
- Water and Wastewater treatment plants
- Develop design criteria and standardized specifications
- Develop control network architecture
- Specify instrumentation (selection, technical data sheets, bid analysis and recommendations)
- Design and review engineering work packages, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, data sheets and control panel layouts / BOM
- Assist in the development of P&IDs by ensuring proper instrument symbiology and control loop definition
- Sizing of control valves and flow devices
- Development of instrument installation details
- Development of engineering estimates and input into proposals
- Prepare various design calculations used in the discipline
- Assist with the Front-End development of projects
- Specify control hardware ensuring functionality, material selection, and safety
- Develop functional descriptions including sequential control logic definition, and interlock definition
- Review and check calculations, design models and drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned
- Work with designers in other disciplines in the overall assignment to coordinate designs
- Prepare bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline
- Develop work plans, budgets, and schedules for basic designer tasks based on input and direction from supervisor when assigned
- Work independently and take initiative to research information to complete assignments within the budgeted time
- Participate and foster a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Minimum 10 years engineering experience in the mining water, wastewater, or chemical industry
- Strong knowledge of industrial control networks
- Extensive knowledge of instrumentation selection for various processes
- Strong knowledge of industrial processes in various industries
- Strong knowledge of control applications including control loop definitions and interlocking systems
- Bachelor's degree in electrical / Instrumentation / automation engineering
- Registered as a professional engineer in Ontario /Alberta/BC
- Works independently in scheduling and completing tasks
- Makes decisions of moderate complexity with some input and review from senior staff
- MS Office competent
- Solid organization and time management abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Excellent Communication skills, both verbal and written
- High level of personal integrity with a strong work ethic
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as dictated by project demands
