The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Project Manager to join our Land Development department, located at our Thornhill office. Reporting to a Departmental Manager, this position will be responsible for all Contract Administrator duties, including preparation of contract preparation and payment certification, chairing of site progress meetings and preparation of meeting minutes, etc., including supervision and review of work prepared by Inspectors reporting to the PM role. As the authorized representative of the team, you will ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with the contract plans and specifications, as well as with applicable codes and safety regulations.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Understand and interpret the requirements and details of the contract drawings and specifications;
  • Understand the contractor's obligations and the client's responsibilities under the contract;
  • Review reports prepared by Inspectors to ensure the work is being completed according to contract requirements and municipal standards;
  • Identify and act on any site, contractual and regulatory infractions (for safety, security, operational efficiency, customer convenience, etc.);
  • Complete all administration aspects of the construction contracts, including but not limited to, contract documentation and monitoring of construction activities for quality assurance;
  • Act as a liaison between the contractor, internal staff, utility companies, local municipalities, etc. as required;
  • Certain assignments may require that you work outside of normal work hours;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Completion of a 4-year Canadian-accredited engineering program in Civil Engineering, or 3-year accredited community college program in a relevant engineering technology discipline, or equivalent experience with civil engineering construction projects;
  • Certification as a P.Eng. or C.E.T. is an asset;
  • 7-10 years of direct related experience in the inspection of large, multi-discipline and/or heavy construction subdivision, site plan, and capital works projects involving specifically storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermains, and road construction;
  • Sound knowledge of construction inspection and management principles, practices and techniques, as well as knowledge of construction products, materials and equipment;
  • Good understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and regulations for construction projects, as well as the safety policies and procedures applicable to the construction project.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), and other Windows and cloud-based computing applications;
  • Sound judgement; strong organizational, administrative, observational and problem-solving skills; effective interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; and
  • A vehicle in suitable working order and valid driver's license is required.
