The Opportunity:
Our team in Ontario currently has an opportunity for a Senior Environmental Planner with specific expertise in Transportation Environmental Impact Assessments and approvals under the Municipal Engineers Association's Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA), MTO's Class EA for Provincial Transportation Facilities , and/or the Transit Project Assessment Process (Ontario Regulation 231/08).
As Canada's leading environmental consulting firm, our team has expertise in environmental and socio-economic impact assessments, planning, permitting, construction monitoring, and stakeholder and Indigenous engagement.
We work on world-class projects, collaborating not only with our 4,000 strong Environment colleagues in Canada but with our broader Environmental team of 14,000 professionals globally.
You will rely on your demonstrated experience navigating EA requirements, environmental permitting, and related authorization processes relevant to transportation projects in Ontario. You will be a key member of a supportive team and serve a variety of clients and projects. You will delegate tasks and provide mentorship and training to junior and intermediate personnel. You will also help develop the team's business.

What you can expect to do here:
- You will manage the environmental planning for multi-disciplinary transportation projects, including environmental impact assessments and related studies
- You will undertake quality reviews of project deliverables, including environmental assessments and technical documents that support regulatory approvals
- You will offer technical leadership to the team, providing strategic advice and oversight, and using strong project management skills to deliver high-quality products and services to our clients
- You will oversee innovative communication and consultation programs that engage the public, stakeholders and Indigenous communities
- You will contribute to the growth of the team by developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key clients, identifying new project opportunities, and supporting proposals for the team
- You will support the team's workload and resource planning, and work with your colleagues to develop the team's business development and marketing strategies
- You will mentor junior and intermediate staff, identifying career goals and development opportunities for them, and for yourself
- You will ensure health and safety policies are followed and be a role model for WSP's Life Saving and corporate values.
- You will primarily be home/office-based but will travel for short-duration trips and events as required.
What you'll bring to WSP ...
- Bachelor or Master's degree in environmental studies, environmental science, land use planning or a related discipline
- Minimum 8 years of experience conducting and managing environmental impact assessments, with a focus on transportation and/or water/wastewater projects
- Experience in the design and delivery of public, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement programs, including the use of innovative virtual engagement tools
- Experience managing medium to large projects and multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience with business development and building client relationships
