As a senior member of the Financial Institutions, Corporate Banking team, the candidate will take a lead role in client relationship management, transaction origination and cross-sell, first-line risk management, mentorship, coaching and training of junior members of the team. The client focus of the team includes Canadian investment dealers, financial market infrastructure providers, credit unions, trusts and international banks. The candidate will provide primary Corporate Banking coverage of an assigned set of client relationships in close coordination with other coverage and product partners throughout the Bank, acting as an integral member of a larger coverage team within BMO Capital Markets. Key areas of focus: client coverage, positive representation of BMO to the market, transaction origination & cross sell of bank products and services, lending execution/structuring and portfolio risk management, understanding and ownership of portfolio revenue/return, mentorship of junior employees.
  • Contributes to growing / elevating the BMO and BMO Capital Market brand with a commitment to and presence in the community.
  • Is a leader in market, maintains ongoing contact with clients and sector leaders. Builds positive client relations through deep/comprehensive understanding of client needs and alignment of our products/services. Ideally has a deep knowledge of regulated financial institutions: broker-dealers, credit unions, trusts and banks.
  • Identifies and leverages key decision makers and influencers in client / internal organizations. Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and ensures alignment. Interprets client strategy and anticipates needs to deliver solutions.
  • Operates as a primary member of the deal team with efforts to maximize sector penetration and returns.
  • Leads client pitches and institutes cross-selling initiatives to increase rankings with client. Initiates contact with partners for new client sales. Partners with deal team and product specialists to provide client-oriented solutions. Works with specialists as needed to support successful deal completion.
  • Identifies opportunities to diversify and grow client portfolio. Maintains awareness of all firm products and services offered and facilitates means of receiving continuous updates. Understands and takes ownership for optimizing portfolio revenue and return.
  • Understands the needs of clients and provides relevant ideas and opinions to generate recommendations. Uses financial analysis and deep knowledge of market to proactively identify opportunities to cross-sell.
  • Provides deal structuring expertise and negotiates transactions with clients.
  • Prepares credit documentation (i.e. applications, memoranda, presentations, etc.) for internal stakeholders including Credit Risk, as well as for clients. Obtains credit concurrence and coordinates pricing approval as client advocate.
  • Takes primary ownership of risk managing a portfolio of clients. Reviews and continually monitors performance of existing accounts and client relationships. Understands the balance between risk and reward and takes ownership for results.
  • Monitors client, client industry and regulatory agencies for potential changes which may affect lending portfolio and business needs.
  • Generates and interprets updated financial models as business needs and industry requirements dictate. Applies appropriate technical concepts and completes/leads consistent and reliable technical and financial reports/analyses to support client deliverables.
  • Completes due diligence and credit analysis on new and existing client relationships. Includes client visits, analysis of business models, and comprehensive review of industry trends and related regulations. Analyzes/assesses industry compilations.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in corporate/commercial banking capacity, including client coverage, cross sell and lending negotiating, structuring and loan portfolio management
  • Relevant experience covering regulated financials institutions is preferred: regulated broker-dealers, credit unions, trusts and/or banks.
  • Undergraduate degree with focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred with high academic achievement.
  • MBA, CFA or CPA an asset
  • The incumbent will be required to reside in/near Toronto working in a hybrid capacity, four-days per week in office, located at 100 King Street W, Toronto, ON.
  • Proven ability to maintain and grow profitable client relationships and to partner with colleagues to drive cross-pillar profitability.
  • Proven ability to act as a key advisor to clients.
  • Expert knowledge of lending portfolio management fundamentals and objectives highly desired.
  • Displays advanced deal execution and/or project management skills - ability to manage more than one client/major initiative.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills In-depth

  • Ability to create and deliver professional presentations.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
