BMO Capital Markets is looking for a Director to join their Algorithmic Trading Risk and Control team, which sits in the Office of the Chief Operating Officer within Capital Markets.

$84,000.00 - $156,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards. BMO Capital Markets is looking for a Director to join their Algorithmic Trading Risk and Control team, which sits in the Office of the Chief Operating Officer within Capital Markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Control Framework Development:
- Uplift and help implement a comprehensive control framework specific to algorithmic trading activities, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Enhance existing policies, procedures, and controls to monitor and manage algorithmic trading activities effectively.
- Governance Oversight:
- Lead the governance process for algorithmic trading initiatives, ensuring that all algorithmic trading strategies adhere to established guidelines and risk parameters.
- Continue to develop and maintain the existing governance structure that facilitates effective decision-making and accountability within the trading division.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay abreast of relevant regulatory developments and ensure that the algorithmic trading function complies with all applicable laws and regulations through the governance framework
- Collaborate with compliance teams to develop and implement training programs for traders and developers on regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Reporting:
- Prepare and present regular reports on trading controls, governance issues, and compliance status to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of control and governance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Operational Risk Events:
- Conduct post-incident reviews to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including trading, technology, global markets engineering, trade floor supervision, compliance, operational risk, and audit, to promote a culture of governance and control.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding algorithmic trading governance and control matters.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in an algorithmic/electronic trading role, either in 1st or 2nd line (business, quantitative development, technology, COO or 1st/2nd line algorithmic/electronic trading risk management)
- Expert Program Management skills.
- Exceptional Verbal & written communication skills
- Extensive Change Management experience, particularly in the electronic trading/algo trading system complex
- Excellent Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration and ability to influence necessary changes
- Able to manage ambiguity effectively and independently
- Expert Data driven decision making
