We are looking for an Assistant Controller for a successful and growing producing mining company headquartered in Canada. Qualified candidates will have their CPA designation and will have trained in a large public practice firm with a public company client portfolio. What- the Role:
Our client is seeking a new Assistant Controller who will report into the Corporate Controller who in turn reports into the CFO. The Assistant Controller will manage and mentor 2 direct reports. This is a newly created position. The Assistant Controller will have a very diverse portfolio of responsibilities including financial reporting (IFRS), MD&A, project accounting, routine and ad hoc reporting for management, internal controls, process improvements, assisting with budgeting & forecasting, etc. The Assistant Controller will support the Controller with various projects, for example financial system optimization and process improvements. Who- the Candidate:
We are looking for an individual with at least 7 years of full-cycle accounting work experience. CPA designation is required. Public company financial reporting is required (IFRS). Mining sector experience is required (or perhaps a very similar sector, such as oil & gas). Training in a large public practice CPA firm is required (preferably to Manager-level). Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, V look-ups, etc.) is required. Experience using top tier ERPs, Power BI, and/or a consolidation tool is beneficial, but not required for a quick learner who is system savvy. The Assistant Controller will be communicating regularly with external and internal stakeholders in a Spanish-language country, so fluency in Spanish (verbal and written) is preferred, but not required.
How Much:
This organization compensates their corporate employees very generously. Base salary is at-market (with a target range of $110,000 to $140,000), and the bonus program is robust and above average- please discuss further with SWIM. Where: Downtown Vancouver OR Downtown Toronto. The corporate culture is one that emphasizes in-person communication, team socializing, and collaboration. Quarterly business travel, usually for around 1 week at a time- so all candidates must have a valid passport and willingness/ability to do International travel several times a year.
