Our Independence Group in the Risk Management Function in Business Enablement Services is looking for an Analyst, Risk Management - Independence, to join our growing team.
The Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global (and local country) independence standards. This role highly focuses on liaison with Partners and Staff from all lines of service about the application of standards and policies pertaining to independence, including those established by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), CPA Code of Professional Conduct (CPA Code), and the IESBA Code of Ethics for Professional Accounts (IESBA Code).

What you will do
- Obtain an understanding and apply technical knowledge and subject matter expertise in Canadian, SEC, PCAOB and IESBA auditor independence rules, as well as KPMG Global and local country independence policies to support client engagement teams;
- Perform weekly updates to incorporate changes to the firm's listing of publicly held audit clients.
- Liaise with engagement teams to gather the information required to process updates to the firm's listing of publicly held audit clients.
- Provide assistance in analyzing services permissibility for audit clients;
- Employ research, critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate the firm's Independence and relationships with respect to its existing and prospective audit clients;
- Assist with providing consultations to KPMG partners and teams across Canada on auditor independence issues related to firm independence matters;
- Provide guidance to client engagement teams in the completion of client acceptance and other independence procedures as required;
- Promote and demonstrate commitment to audit quality, risk management and independence processes and policies within the firm;
- Assist with independence projects on an ad-hoc and on-going basis, and assist with the identification of process enhancements and improvements.
- Post-Secondary education in a business, accounting/finance, or related field required.
- Ability to learn the independence rules and to apply them accordingly.
- Ability to learn new information technology systems/platforms and to become proficient.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and etc.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent and able to respond promptly and professionally to all requests and inquiries.
- Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply conceptual framework to new and unique situations.
- Ability in performing research and analyzing data and takes initiative and has strong organizational skills.
- Ability in identifying potential issues, arriving at conclusions, and documenting results/findings to support conclusions where required.
- Excellent business writing and communication skills, with a great attention to detail and ability to generate high quality deliverables.
- Excellent time management skills with an ability to prioritize, and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven environment, with confidence in dealing with senior executives and challenging situations.
- Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information appropriately.
